About Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways is the flag carrier of Qatar and is headquartered in Doha with its hub at Hamad International Airport, Doha. Qatar Airways flies to many destinations across all continents. Overall, the airline flies to more than 170 destinations in over 80 countries. The airline is one of the biggest airlines in the Middle East, with one of the largest route networks in the region.

Qatar Airways was founded in 1993 and began flying the following year with its inaugural flight from Doha to Amman. By 1996, the airline served major destinations across Asia and Europe including Athens, Bangkok, London, Istanbul and Tokyo and in the following years expanded to fly to destinations in every inhabited continent in the world.

Qatar Airways has codeshare agreements with Air France, All Nippon Airways, American Airlines, Asiana Airlines, Azerbaijan Airlines, Bangkok Airways, Cathay Pacific, Garuda Indonesia, Malaysia Airlines and Royal Jordanian.

Fleet

Qatar Airways has a large fleet made up of aircraft manufactured by Boeing and Airbus. The airline is constantly updating and replacing its planes but usually has over 200 aircraft within its fleet at one time. It uses models within the A320, A330 A350, A380, Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 families.

Baggage

Carry-On Baggage

Passengers in Economy Class are entitled to one item of free carry-on baggage with a maximum weight of 7 kg. On flights to Brazil, Economy Class passengers are entitled to one item of free carry-on baggage with a maximum weight of 10 kg.

Passengers in First Class and Business Class are entitled to two items of free carry-on baggage with a combined weight of 15 kg.

No one piece of baggage can exceed the dimensions of 50 cm x 37 cm x 25 cm (20" x 15" x 10"), regardless of the cabin class.

Checked Baggage

The free checked baggage allowance will depend on the route that the passenger is flying and the cabin class that they're flying in.

Hub Airport

Hamad International Airport, Doha

Hamad International Airport is the international airport for Doha and is the hub airport for Qatar Airways. Other airlines which fly to and from this airport includes Air Arabia, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Cebu Pacific, Etihad Airways, Iran Air, Nepal Airlines, Oman Air, Jet Airways, Pakistan International Airlines and many others.

Hamad International Airport is well-known for its excellent airport shopping. The airport features over 70 luxury retailers and has a duty free area that is open 24 hours a day.

Qatar Airways is introducing service to Gaborone, Botswana, from Doha on Oct. 27. This new service makes Qatar Airways the first Middle Eastern airline to operate to the capital of Botswana.

Qatar Airways Helps to Stop Wildlife Smuggling

Today, Qatar Airways has stepped up against wildlife smuggling by commencing in-house anti trafficking initiatives. This announcement comes after the airline singed the ‘United for Wildlife Transport Taskforce Declaration’ in 2017.

The aspects of this involve refusing to accept or ship illegal Cargo such as animals, and sharing any knowledge about illegal trades with authorities in a timely manner.
